Sooner State Cycle Park is NOW Reynard Raceway
11-25-09:  Wellston, OK - Jeff Toney
Robbie Reynard bought Sooner State Cycle Park today and the facility is now known as Reynard Raceway!  This is the first of a series of big changes in the motocross industry in Oklahoma.  I have NOT had an interview with Robbie since the official purchase but it is my understanding he will have the track open a lot for riding plus will hold many races.  I believe you can expect to see some really great things coming to the facility and the state.

Included in the sale are the currently scheduled 5 Star Series Races and the State Championship Race.  Robbie will be the promoter of the scheduled races as Chan Baker will be spending more time at the Baker Boys Yamaha Dealership he and his wife Laura own.  Chan  and Laura will also be found at the race tracks helping their son in his budding career.

It is the most remarkable change leading to the end of an era.  Regardless of how you feel about Mr. Chan Baker, you only have to think back over the many years of motocross in Oklahoma to realize he is largely responsible for the growth of the industry over the years.  Many others were key people and had a great influence but great things are usually due to a driving force.  Chan Baker was that driving force.  Driving Forces are never popular with everyone but usually produce fantastic results.  You have to admit, for many years Motocross in Oklahoma was Fantastic.  A great base, heritage, and reputation has been built and the future has a tremendous starting point to build an even brighter future.

What is the future of the sport as it is rapidly approaching a completely new level?  Only time will tell but my bet is the future is indeed very bright (will be different, as required by growth) and has the opportunity to seize on the past success to build an even better future.

For those who love to rant and rave on the message boards, you better do some homework.  You are going to have to remember a lot of new names and develop new reasons to complain.  Of course few will listen to you as usual so maybe this is the time for a new beginning for you too!  Opinions are one thing but negativity brings exactly that.  There are no sure things about the future of the sport other than it will need an abundant amount of positive influence.

This coming time is critical to the sport and the future.  Racers need to go out and RACE.  Promoters need to PROMOTE.  Organizers need to ORGANIZE.  Rule makers and enforcers need to concentrate on that.  Those who have always devoted their time and effort are the only constant there is and I am sure there will always be those wonderful people willing to devote time and effort to help build the sport.  Now if everyone will just do THEIR job and leave the other jobs to those responsible for it, great things will happen.

Some of you know that Sooner State Cycle Park was an extremely critical factor in my life and indeed my very existence.  There are so many memories it is hard to see it leave so that is what I am going to do:  leave this story right here with a Salute before my eyes water up too much to finish it.

My Final Salute to Sooner State Cycle Park
